The Word This Week- 30th November

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is Advent Sunday, marking the beginning of a new church year and our season of waiting and preparation for the coming of our Lord, both as the child at Christmas and when he comes in glory at the end of time. This Sunday and next, there will be a service in Ullapool. My thanks to Rev’d David Higgon, who has provided this week’s reflection.

Our Advent course this year will be looking at some of the great O Antiphons of the church, traditionally used in Advent. No idea what these are? Join us to find out more! We will meet in person on Wednesdays 3rd, 10th and 17th December at 11.40 a.m. in St Mary’s Ullapool. If you are unable to attend but would like the resources sent out to you, please let me know.

The diocese is also producing a series of short reflections for Advent which will be available on the new diocesan website at https://moray.anglican.org/

St Mary’s congregation is reminded that the Annual Congregational Meeting will take place on Sunday 7th December after the morning service. Please come if you can – it is an important meeting for our church. At the meeting we need to elect or re-elect the Lay Representative and alternate Lay Representative and also Vestry Members. This year, Gillian Eltringham, Joanna Munro and Sandra Skipper have all reached the end of their three-year term; there will be four vacancies for election or re-election. Please prayerfully consider who might best fill these roles for us. A nominations form is available in church.

Also on Sunday 7th December is our next service of Sung Evensong at the winter time of 3.00 pm. If anyone is interested in getting together beforehand to try to learn the settings for the psalm and canticles in parts, please let me know and I will see what I can arrange.

The next meeting of the monthly Bible study group will be on Monday 8th December at 5.00p.m. at Joy’s house to continue the series of studies on Prayer.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
