Dear Friends in the Northwest
This Sunday is the sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the second Sunday in the Season of Creation. This Sunday, there will be a service in Ullapool. Next Sunday, there will be services in Ullapool and Achiltibuie. At Achiltibuie, we will be keeping Harvest Festival.
The monthly Bible Study group, continuing a series of studies about the Holy Spirit, meets on Monday at 5 pm at Joy’s house (51 St Valery Place).
Fairtrade Fortnight begins this week. This year is the 30th anniversary of the Fairtrade mark. There will be various events for Fairtrade Fortnight in Ullapool, and possibly elsewhere across the Charge. It gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the choices we make when we shop, and how we may best support some of the poorest farmers in the world who produce some of the goods we take for granted.
On Friday 13th September, Green Screen is collaborating with Take One Action to promote their showing of the film Until the End of the World, ‘a journey across three continents, following a journalistic investigation into the fish farming industry’. More information is available at www.takeoneaction.orf.uk/event/something-fishy-ullapool-screening/# This event will take place at the Ullapool Ferry Terminal, from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. The film (58 min) will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director and others.
On Saturday 14th September, Maureen Farquhar and Laura Symon will be ordained deacon by Bishop Mark in the Cathedral in a service beginning at 2pm. All are welcome. Please hold them in your prayers as they prepare to take this next step in their journey of faith.
As notified earlier in the summer, there will be a Festal Choral Evensong in the Cathedral on Sunday 29th September at 5.30 pm to mark the 150th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral, followed by refreshments. If you plan to attend, you are asked to RSVP to office or 01463 225553.
I am on holiday until Friday 13th September. While I am away, Fr David is taking the services on Sundays and Wednesdays (all in Ullapool) and is available if any pastoral support is required.
With love and prayers
Rev’d Clare
