Dear Friends in the Northwest
This Sunday is the second Sunday before Lent; there will be a service in Ullapool. My thanks to Rev’d David Higgon for providing this week’s reflection. Next Sunday is the Sunday before Lent. There will be a service in Ullapool in the morning when Rev’d David Coleman will be preaching for us, and a service in the afternoon in Achiltibuie.
The monthly Bible Study Group meets on Monday at 5.00 p.m. at Joy’s house. The group will be starting a new series of studies looking at the shorter letters of the New Testament.
Our study day with Rev’d David Coleman, chaplain of EcoCongregation Scotland, is on Saturday. This event will be held in The Macphail Centre in Ullapool as we have more people coming than St Mary’s will comfortably hold. The title of the day is For the Love of the Earth and will consider our spiritual response to the climate emergency. We will gather at 10am and finish by 3.30pm to allow people to get on the road home. If you are intending to come, and haven’t already done so, please let me know for catering purposes. The Macphail Centre means we have plenty of space. Also, if you have dietary requirements and haven’t already done so, please let me know. Further information is available in the News and Notices section of this website.
Wednesday 18th February is Ash Wednesday. There will be services of Holy Eucharist with imposition of ashes in St Mary’s at 11.00 am and 6.00 pm that day. If you have your palm cross from last year and would like me to burn it for this year’s ashes, please give it to me by Sunday 15th February.
GreenScreen is back on Thursday 26th February at 7.30 p.m. with Twice Colonised, a documentary that follows an Inuk human rights lawyer, a native of Greenland, as she looks back at how both she and her homeland were colonised by Europe, and how she has undertaken the work of decolonising herself as a lawyer and advocate fighting for the autonomy of her culture. More details to follow.
am away for a short break at present, returning on Tuesday. In my absence, Rev’d David Higgon will conduct the services in Ullapool and will be available to provide emergency pastoral care for the Ullapool and Achiltibuie congregations. Ven John Green will provide emergency pastoral cover for the Lochinver and Kinlochbervie congregations.
With love and prayers
Rev’d Clare
