The Word This Week – 5th October

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is the seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost. This Sunday and next, there will be a service in Ullapool. This weekend, we welcome our curate, Anne Macdonald, a new venture in the history of our congregations. I am sure you will all make her very welcome at our services this month and enjoy getting to know her over the coming weeks and months as she also gets to know us. A curacy is a training position, but it is a two-way process – Anne will learn from us, something that we will all have a part to play in, but we will also learn from her.

Thank you to everyone who made our Harvest celebrations at Achiltibuie, Ullapool and Lochinver so special over the last two Sundays. Your generosity means that we have much to share with others through the Highland Foodbank.

The monthly Bible study group will meet on Monday 13th October at 5.00 p.m. to continue the series of studies on Prayer. The venue is to be decided.

On Saturday 25th October, the provincial Net Zero team are holding a roadshow at the Cathedral in Inverness. The event will run between 10am and 3.30pm, with time for networking, sharing stories and hearing from external contributors. Contributions will include talks, information stands and workshops, tackling a range of subjects e.g. funding, climate justice and building improvements. The day will include a plant-based catered lunch and will end with worship, helping to keep our environmental concerns rooted within the context of our faith. It should be an interesting day beyond the issue of reducing the carbon footprint of church-owned buildings, so relevant for anyone interested in how we all tackle issues of climate justice in our own lives, as well as a church. With love and prayers
