Dear Friends in the Northwest
This Sunday is All Saints Sunday, the Feast of All Saints having fallen yesterday; there will be a service in Ullapool. My thanks to Rev’d Anne for providing this week’s reflection, her first as our curate.
This Sunday, 2nd November, St Mary’s is holding a ‘Come and Sing Your Favourite Hymns’ from 2-3pm – please invite your friends to come along with you. If you wish to stay on at church after the morning service, you are welcome to do so and soup and rolls will be available at lunchtime.
Also on Sunday, in the evening, there is a showing of the film Where Olive Trees Weep at 7.30 pm in the Ullapool Ferry Terminal. It is being organised by local people to coincide with the official Palestinian Film Festival and gives background to the current crisis in the Middle East.
The Feast of All Souls, the day on which the church remembers the vast company of the faithful departed, and especially family and friends, will be kept on Monday 3rd November. There will be a service at 11.00a.m. in St Mary’s Ullapool. If you would like a relative or friend remembered at this service, please check that it is on the list at the back of the church or add it there; you can also email names to me. You do not have to be attending the service to have a loved one included.
A Celebration of the life of Freda Bastow will be held in Clachan Church on Saturday 8th November, starting at 2 pm. There will be an account of Freda’s life, with pictures, music and stories. This will be followed by a gathering with food in Braemore Hall, from around 4 pm.
Next Sunday, 9th November, is Remembrance Sunday, when many of us will be participating in Acts of Remembrance in our own communities. In Ullapool, there will be a said Eucharist in St Mary’s at 9.00 a.m. followed by the community Service of Remembrance in the Church of Scotland at 10.00 a.m., and then the act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.55 a.m.
The next meeting of the monthly Bible study group will be on Monday 10th November at 5.00p.m. at Joy’s house to continue the series of studies on Prayer.
With love and prayers
Rev’d Clare
