The Word This Week – 28th September

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday, we celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving at our services in Ullapool and Lochinver. There will be a bring and share lunch after the Ullapool service at which all are welcome. There will also be a service in Kinlochbervie on Saturday for the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost – we will celebrate Harvest there next month.

This year, the Highland Foodbank are particularly looking for the following items: tins of corned beef, jars of pasta sauce, long life or diluting juice, small jars of coffee, tins of potatoes, tins of tomatoes, toothpaste, deodorant. If you are able to contribute an item or two, please bring them along to the services or, if you cannot be there and would like to contribute, give them to someone else to bring along.

Our curate-to-be, Anne MacDonald, together with Stuart Thomson from the Black Isle, will be ordained deacon by Bishop Mark next Saturday, 4th October in Inverness Cathedral. The service begins at 1 pm. Refreshments will be served after the service. The Cathedral would like an idea of numbers attending by Monday. Please let me know if you are planning to attend so that I can send numbers in and we can also arrange to share transport where possible. There is a card for Anne which is being brought to services this month so that as many people as possible can sign it. Next Sunday, there will be a service in Ullapool which will be Anne’s first service as curate with us. We will be welcoming her at the first service in each congregation during October.

We are now in the middle of Fairtrade Fortnight. The Ullapool Fairtrade Group has various events planned which are advertised in the Ullapool News.

Green Screen returns for a new season on Thursday 2nd October at 7.30 pm in the Ullapool Ferry Terminal with X Trillion – 14 women, 3000 miles, X Trillion pieces of plastic. Entry is free, donations welcome. Please come and bring your friends. Refreshments will be served. Further details can be found in the News & Notices section of this website.

My grateful thanks to Rev’d David Higgon and Ven John Green for providing cover during my recent absence on holiday. Their support is much appreciated.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
