The Word This Week – 27th November

Dear Friends in the Northwest,

This Sunday is Advent Sunday, the beginning of the new Church year. This weekend, there will be services at Kinlochbervie on Saturday at 12 noon (The Ceilidh House), and on Sunday at 10am in Ullapool and at 2.30pm in Lochinver (The Assynt Centre). Fr John Green will be preaching for us in Lochinver and I am grateful to him for providing this week’s reflection.

Next Sunday, there will be a service in Ullapool. A reminder that the Annual Congregational Meeting of St Mary’s Ullapool will take place on next Sunday after the service.

During Advent, an Advent course entitled Candles in the Dark will take place on Wednesdays in St Mary’s Ullapool after the morning service, so just after 11.30 am. Based on a book of the same name by David Adam, this course will look in turn at the Patriarchs, the Prophets, John the Baptist, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. These are one interpretation of the symbolism of the four outer candles on an Advent Wreath. If you would like to participate in the course but are unable to attend and would like me to email or post you the materials for individual study, please let me know.

The wider SEC will be running an Advent series on Anglican Christianity: What does it mean to be an ‘Anglican’ Christian?. Led by Revd Dr Michael Hull, this is a series of webinars taking place on the Mondays in Advent at 7pm. To participate, you need to register (this is free). Register here.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
