The Word This Week – 21st May

Dear Friends in the Northwest

We are keeping this Sunday as Ascension Sunday, with services in Ullapool and Achiltibuie. My thanks to Fr David for providing our reflection on the Feast of the Ascension.

Next weekend is another major festival in the church calendar, the Feast of Pentecost. On Saturday, the Mission congregations have their joint day of worship, fellowship and reflection in the Assynt Centre in Lochinver at which we will be joined by Bishop Mark, starting at 10.30 am. On Sunday 28th, there will be services in Ullapool and in Kinlochbervie, but no service in Lochinver.

Also on Saturday 27th, Durness and Kinlochbervie Church of Scotland together with the Christian Fellowship of Healing Highland are having a Pentecost Party in the Manse garden from 1-4 pm and Pentecost Praise and Prayer in Kinlochbervie Church from 7-8 pm. So, if you can’t come down to Lochinver, here is another option!

As previously mentioned, from Monday to Wednesday this week we have Rev’d Val, a Lutheran pastor who ministers in the Anglican Church in Canada, visiting us. On Tuesday I will be taking her around some of our area and meeting a few people as we go, and on Wednesday she will join us in St Mary’s for the Wednesday service at 11.00 am, followed by refreshments, and for the soup lunch at 1.00 pm. All are welcome to join us for the service and/or soup to meet Rev’d Val.

On Sunday 4th June, there will be sung Evensong in St Mary’s Ullapool at 5.30 p.m. Several people have expressed interest in having Evensong occasionally, a service that many people love. All are welcome to join us for this. If you would like a copy of the music in advance, please let me know.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
