The Word This Week – 20th October

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is the twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost There will be services in Ullapool and Achiltibuie, at both of which we will welcome Ven John Green as our preacher. My thanks to him for providing the reflection for this week’s newsletter.

Important: Please note that the Achiltibuie service this month will be at Ruth’s House and not at the Community Hall. Please contact me if you plan to attend and do not know where this is.

Next weekend, there will be a service in Kinlochbervie on Saturday, and services in Ullapool and Lochinver on Sunday, which we will keep as All Saints Sunday.

Over the next two Sundays (20th and 27th October), St Mary’s Ullapool will be having a special collection to support the Christian Aid appeal for the Middle East. Christian Aid have renewed this appeal in recent weeks amidst the continuing humanitarian crisis there, and in recent days, as part of the Disasters Emergency Committee, have extended it from Gaza to the wider region. If anyone from the other congregations would like to participate, you are welcome to do so. Please put your contribution in an envelope clearly marked for Christian Aid and pass it to me at our forthcoming services, or ask someone to drop it into the church mailbox if they are passing through Ullapool.

Looking ahead slightly, on Saturday 2nd November, there will be a service for All Souls Day in St Mary’s Ullapool at 11 a.m. This is the day on which the church remembers the vast company of the faithful departed, and especially family and friends. I should be grateful if you would let me know the names of any people you would like to be remembered at this service – anyone who is important to you can be included, they do not need to have connection with the church or this area, or to have died recently, and you do not need to be attending the service. I have the list from last year and welcome any additional names from across the charge.

This service, on Saturday 2nd November, will be preceded by a Prayer Vigil for the Middle East from 10-11 a.m.

I am going to be away for a family event from Monday 28th October to Monday 4th November. In my absence, Fr David Higgon will be taking the services in Ullapool and will provide any necessary pastoral cover for the Ullapool and Achiltibuie congregations. Fr John Green will provide pastoral cover for the Lochinver and Kinlochbervie congregations. My thanks to them for their help.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
