Dear Friends in the Northwest
This Sunday is the fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost and is the first Sunday in the Season of Creation, which runs from 1st September until the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4th October. This Sunday, there will be the usual service of Holy Eucharist in Ullapool in the morning, and Sung Evensong in Ullapool at 5.30 p.m. Next Sunday, there will be the usual service in Ullapool.
Thank you to everyone who helped to make Bishop Mark’s recent visits to Ullapool, Achiltibuie and Lochinver so joyful.
The next meeting of the monthly Bible Study group, continuing a series of studies about the Holy Spirit, will be on Monday 9th September at 5 pm at Joy’s house (51 St Valery Place).
Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 9th to 22nd September. This year is the 30th anniversary of the Fairtrade mark. There will be various events for Fairtrade Fortnight in Ullapool, and possibly elsewhere across the Charge. It gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the choices we make when we shop, and how we may best support some of the poorest farmers in the world who produce some of the goods we take for granted.
On Friday 13th September, Green Screen is collaborating with Take One Action to promote their showing of the film Until the End of the World, ‘a journey across three continents, following a journalistic investigation into the fish farming industry’. More information is available at www.takeoneaction.orf.uk/event/something-fishy-ullapool-screening/# This event will take place at the Ullapool Ferry Terminal, from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. The film (58 min) will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director and others.
On Saturday 14th September, Maureen Farquhar and Laura Symon will be ordained deacon by Bishop Mark in the Cathedral in a service beginning at 2pm. All are welcome. Please hold them in your prayers as they prepare to take this next step in their journey of faith.
I am now on holiday until Friday 13th September. While I am away, Fr David will be taking the services on Sundays and Wednesdays (all in Ullapool) and will be available if any pastoral support is required. He can be contacted on 07790 032422.
With love and prayers
Rev’d Clare
