The Word This Week – 1st March

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is the second Sunday in Lent; This weekend, there will be a service in Kinlochbervie on Saturday and in Ullapool on Sunday. Also on Sunday, there will be a service of Sung Evensong at 3.00 p.m. If you would like to practise the settings for the psalm and canticles in parts, we will be meeting before the service at about 2.30 pm..

This year’s Lent Course, entitled Calling a Wounded Earth Home, continues on this Sunday and on Sundays 8th, 15th and 22nd March at 11.30 a.m. in St Mary’s. There will be time for the usual gathering for refreshments after the morning service before we start. We will finish by 12.30 p.m. If you are unable to attend but would like to receive the materials, please let me know.

The Ullapool service for World Day of Prayer will take place in St Martin’s RC Church on Friday 6th March at 10.30 am. This year’s service, ‘I will give you rest: Come’, has been written by the Christian women of Nigeria.

The monthly Bible Study Group meets on Monday 9th March at 5.00 p.m. at Joy’s house. The group will be continuing to look at the shorter letters of the New Testament.

And another Green Screen film is coming up on Wednesday 18th March at 7.30 p.m. in the Ullapool Ferry Terminal: Fires and Fascism. Suggested donation £5. Please come and bring your friends, a cushion and refreshments. Further details may be found in the News and Notices section of this website.

Following Bishop Mark’s recent visit to The Philippines as part of a USPG international convention on injustice, the Bishop’s Lent Appeal this year will go to the Episcopal Church in The Philippines. It will to help the church support the community who live by scavenging on the Sitio Pintor rubbish dump in Manila, a site visited by Bishop Mark. If you wish to contribute to the Lent Appeal, please place your contribution in an envelope marked ‘Bishop’s Lent Appeal’, and either hand it to me or place it in the Offering Basket at one of our services, preferably by Easter.

Finally, looking ahead to the late summer, it is intended that Bishop Mark will ordain Rev’d Anne to the Order of Presbyters (as a priest) on Saturday 29th August. This will take place somewhere within the Charge – I need to find somewhere suitable as St Mary’s is too small! This is a momentous, once in a lifetime event for our congregations as well as for Anne. Please put the date in your diaries and plan to be there to support her if at all possible.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
