Helen Morrison – St. Gilbert’s Lochinver:
After twenty years coming to Assynt for walking and climbing holidays and being in love with the area, I subsequently fell in love with a wonderful highland gentleman. I made the move from Yorkshire to Assynt and have been privileged to live here for over thirty years. Formerly a secondary school teacher, having trained at Lady Mabel College of Physical Education, and teaching for twenty five years at Greenhead Grammar School in Keighley, the decision to leave was made and I married into the family which had run the Inchnadamph Hotel for over seventy years. I joined the family team, finding the skills needed in teaching were transferable to hotel management. Sharing my love and gathered knowledge of the hills, lochs, natural history and culture of the area with guests was always a great pleasure. The Lochinver congregation of six members welcomed me and over the last thirty years it has been wonderful to see the congregation grow, with many changes, which is only natural in this area, and I know from experience what a caring and supportive group St. Gilbert’s is. I’ve had the pleasure of serving as sacristan for twenty seven years (travelling with cross, candlesticks, communion vessels and altar cloth) and the honour and humbling experience of being the Eucharistic Minister for the congregation for the last sixteen years.
