The Word This Week – 7th September

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost which we are keeping as the Second Sunday in the Season of Creation. This Sunday and next, there will be the usual services in Ullapool. In addition, this Sunday, 7th September, we will be welcoming Rev’d Canon Tembu Rongong and the choir of Holy Trinity Elgin to sing choral Evensong for us in Ullapool at 5.30 p.m. Refreshments will be available at the church before the service from about 5.00 p.m. – please come through to the kitchen.

On Monday 8th September, the monthly Bible study group will meet at 5.00 p.m. at Joy’s house to continue the series of studies on Prayer.

During September, the congregations at Achiltibuie, Lochinver and Ullapool will be celebrating Harvest Festival. Kinlochbervie will keep Harvest Festival in October. This year, the Highland Foodbank are particularly looking for the following items: tins of corned beef, jars of pasta sauce, long life or diluting juice, small jars of coffee, tins of potatoes, tins of tomatoes, toothpaste, deodorant. If you are able to contribute an item or two, please bring them along to the services which will be advertised or, if you cannot be there and would like to contribute, give them to someone else to bring along.

On Sunday 21st September at 3 pm in Inverness Cathedral, there is a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the 80th anniversary of Christian Aid.

Our curate-to-be, Anne MacDonald, together with Stuart Thomson from the Black Isle, will be ordained deacon by Bishop Mark on Saturday 4th October in Inverness Cathedral. The service begins at 1 pm. Refreshments will be served after the service. The Cathedral would like an idea of numbers attending by Monday 29th September. Please let me know if you are planning to attend so that I can send numbers in and we can also arrange to share transport where possible. There is a card for Anne which will be brought to services this month so that as many people as possible can sign it. Please hold Anne, and Stuart, in your prayers as they prepare.

I will be on holiday from Monday 8th to Sunday 21st September. In my absence, Rev’d David Higgon will conduct the services in Ullapool and Achiltibuie and will be available to provide emergency pastoral care for the Ullapool and Achiltibuie congregations. Ven John Green will provide emergency pastoral cover for the Lochinver and Kinlochbervie congregations.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
