The Word This Week – 7th April

Dear Friends in the Northwest

This Sunday is the second Sunday of Easter. This Sunday and next, there will be a service in Ullapool.

Thank you to all who contributed in so many ways to our celebrations of Easter last weekend across the charge. And the glorious weather added to the joy of the day.

The next meeting of the monthly Bible study group, looking at The Holy Spirit, will be on Monday 8th April at 5.00p.m. at Joy’s house.

The next Green Screen film, Freedom to Run, is on Thursday 11th April at 7.00 for 7.30 pm at the Ferry Terminal. Further information is in the News and Notices section of this website.

A reminder that the Bishop’s Lent Appeal this year is supporting communities in South Sudan and specifically the development of facilities at the Bishop Nathaniel Garang Training Centre. Further information about this project has been sent out and is in the News and Notices section of this website. I should be grateful if any remaining contributions could be handed or sent to me by Sunday 14th April.

Many of you will remember that Bryn Higgs from Ullapool went to Palestine as a UN Human Rights Observer for three months, a little over a year ago. Since then, as we know, the situation in both Gaza and the West Bank has changed out of all recognition. We all feel helpless in the face of the events that have unfolded, but Bryn has decided to return to the West Bank as a volunteer leaving in mid-April. He writes:

‘I’m travelling to Hebron/Al Khalil in Palestine (West Bank) to act as a human rights monitor upholding equal rights for all in the region. The West Bank is under Israeli military occupation, and human rights abuses there are frequent and increasingly violent. I will join a local team for a month as a volunteer, working with Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organisations and UN agencies. On my return I hope to talk to UK audiences about what I have observed.’

Please hold Bryn in your prayers.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
