The Word This Week – 5th February

Dear Friends in the Northwest

We are keeping this Sunday as Candlemas Sunday – the presentation of Christ in the Temple. The feast of Candlemas, which is on 2nd February, marks the end of the Christmas season. This Sunday and next, there will be a service in Ullapool.

Dates for your diary: On Sunday 12th February, the morning service and refreshments in St Mary’s will be followed by a soup lunch and then there will be a hymn practice – an opportunity for anyone who wishes to sing some old favourites and learn some new tunes. On Shrove Tuesday (21st February), there will be a pancake party and ‘angel drive’ at St Mary’s starting at 5.00 pm. It would be helpful if you could let me know if you are planning to attend (just to make sure there are enough pancakes!) but it is not essential. The following day is Ash Wednesday (22nd February); there will be services of Holy Eucharist with imposition of ashes in St Mary’s at 11.00 am and 6.00 pm. If you have your palm cross from last year and would like me to burn it for this year’s ashes, please give it to me by Sunday 20th February. Although these events are all in St Mary’s Ullapool, those of you from elsewhere are, of course, very welcome to come along if you can.

With love and prayers

Rev’d Clare
