The Word This Week – 6th June 2021

Dear Friends in the Northwest,

Today is the Second Sunday after Pentecost – we have now entered the long season of Ordinary Time in the Church Calendar which lasts until Advent. Both this Sunday and next, there is a service in Ullapool. The last two Sundays, these services have been completely full, though not this week so far, and there have been some visitors around who sometimes wish to join us, so please don’t forget to let me know if you are planning to attend.

Some of you have kindly asked if I had a good holiday – I did thank you, and my grateful thanks to Fr David and Fr John for ‘holding the fort’ while I was away.

You will probably have heard in the news this week that, from this weekend, the Highland Council area is moving to Level 1 Covid protection level. The main difference this makes to us as churches is that congregations are now allowed to sing at services, but people must continue to wear a mask while doing so. We are also allowed to have refreshments after the service, although we must comply with the regulations for hospitality businesses. I am looking into what this will entail in practice. These changes are another step forward but, as previously, we must proceed with caution, see what works best for us and making sure that everyone is comfortable with the arrangements.

With love and prayers,

Rev’d Clare
