Dear Friends in the Northwest
This week is the twelfth Sunday after Pentecost. This Sunday, there will be services in Ullapool, Lochinver and Kinlochbervie (Village Hall). Next Sunday, the thirteenth after Pentecost, there will be a service in Ullapool.
The Season of Creation begins on Thursday 1st September with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and runs until the Feast of St Francis on 4th October. This year’s theme for this global ecumenical initiative is Listen to the Voice of Creation. As Christians, in this season, we are called to lament those peoples, species and habitats who are lost or whose existence is threatened, particularly by climate change, and in prayer and action to care for our common home so that our lives proclaim the Good News for all the Earth.
The Psalmist declares, “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge…their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the Earth, and their words to the end of the world.” (19: 1-4)
As part of the Season of Creation, there is a Global Walk for Future Day which happily coincides with our reflective walk to mark the Season of Pilgrimage on the afternoon of Saturday 3rd September at Lael Forest garden (reserve date of Saturday 10th September if the weather is too awful on 3rd). Coming from Ullapool, we will meet at the far car park (with the post box) at 2.30pm. Please bring suitable clothing and a drink and snack so that we can enjoy some fellowship together at the end. The terrain is fairly easy, the pace will be very gentle, and you may walk as much or as little as you prefer. I am compiling a list of those who wish to come so we may share lifts and so I can notify you if we decide to postpone. However, this does not preclude just turning up on the day.
In connection with our church’s Season of Pilgrimage, the booklet I mentioned previously has now been printed. This is for you to use individually or with friends. I would like to extend our thanks to the person who kindly paid for the printing. Copies are available at our services. If you are unable to attend and would like me to send you a copy, please let me know.
With love and prayers
